POLICIES
POLICIES THAT WILL BE BROUGHT ON BOARD DURING MY TENURE OF OFFICE AS THE SRC PROVINCIAL WOMEN’S COMMISIONER.
The women’s commission is a key commission in every institution. It is the aspect of the Student Representative Council that aids female students’ in realizing themselves as important resource for the advancement of society, inculcates in the female student, a sense of inclusion, solidarity and active participating in campus activities, helping to raise the self- esteem and confidence of females and also assist in finding solutions to problems in connection with women related ideals. The office of the women’s commission under the leadership of Hon Christiana Opoku Dankwa has done tremendously well. Another year for another kind of leadership has come. I am Sandra Nana Ama Brobbey, a level 200, nutrition student and aspire to become the provincial SRC women’s commissioner for the 2019-2020 academic year. I believe in women advocacy and empowerment to raise competent and effective leaders and also raise women who are confident in whatever they do. When voted into office, the policies I intend to achieve includes; increase female participation in leadership at all levels, unearthing the potentials and capabilities in women, introduce an awards night for deserving women in our institution and encourage participation in various disciplines by a number of women. How I intend achieving each of these policies are explained below.
INCREASE PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP
Participation in leadership positions by female students is very low as compared to other tertiary institutions nationwide. This is saddening since women are effective leaders when given the mandate. A quote from Miss Anita Roddick, founder of “the body shop” says “what I have learned is that people get motivated when you guide them to the source of their own power and when you make heroes out of employees who personify what you want to see in the organization”.
During the end of my tenure of office I intend to see a massive participation of women in various portfolios on campus. Various leadership seminars and capacity building programs as well as mentorship and modelling programs by well-seasoned models and guests will be organized on Hohoe campus in other to aid female students unearth their capabilities, explore them and use them to impact society positively. These programs will be promoted well enough to see to participation of female students.
AN AWARDS NIGHT FOR DESERVING WOMEN IN OUR INSTITUTION
Individuals are motivated and are willing to do more when they are given recognition and are appreciated. During my tenure of office, in collaboration with the commission where every woman is a stakeholder, I will organize an awards night where hardworking women will be award in different categories. Measures will be put in place to sustain this award scheme. Sponsorship for this scheme will be sent to various NGO’s, companies, persons and agencies to support this initiative. This I believe will encourage female students to put in their absolute best in whatever they do in other to receive recognition, hence boost their desire to be successful.
ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION OF FEMALE STUDENTS IN VARIOUS DISCIPLINES
Female students will be encouraged to participate in disciplines such as sports especially in debate. Debate is one sport that promotes the act of public speaking, raises the level of self-confidence, provides knowledge on diverse areas in the world and promotes the act of effective decision making.
The “SHE in debate” will be organized to promote the participation of women in debate and awards will be given to winners and participants. This will be organized between levels and departments to aid participation participation in other sports as well. The “SHE in debate” will be sustained by subsequent administrations due to its value as evident by these administrations.
THE GIRLS CODE
The “GIRLS CODE” will be a program as well as a training session where women will be taken through training in making of artifacts. It will be a program where well-seasoned guests who are experts in various disciplines including entrepreneurship, relationship and counseling, as well as entertainment will be brought on board to serve as source of motivation and inspiration to ladies.
The “SHE MOTIVATE CONCEPT”
This initiative seeks to use female students in our institutions as agent of change in communities. This initiative will use female students in various departments and schools as role models to younger females in the basic, senior high schools and communities. During our visit to such institutions and schools’ talks will be given on various social issues affecting the community especially the “development of the girl child”. Motivation will be given to these young children in other to enable them aspire higher in life, believe in themselves as women and proof to the world that they can. This will go a long way to boost our confident level and make as better women in life.
Drawing an inspiration from a quote from Michelle Obama which says “As women, we must stand for ourselves; As women, we must stand up for each other and as women; we must stand up for justice for all”.
With these policies I believe we can build a better environment for the today’s women to aspire for greatness.
